Changing Names

undermybed.co.uk has been around for quite a while now, but I think I need a change. This name just isn’t relevant anymore to either me or the site. I’ll be very sad to see it go, but there will be a while when both the old and new urls will still be in use so it won’t disappear overnight.

Of course, the only question is, what new web address do I buy?! I really like runningpaws but unfortunately it’s not available!

Suggestions very much welcomed (feel free to comment anonymously).

ETA: currently considering runjumpbark or something along those lines. Hmm!

7 Things …

From, of course, Bernadette and the Obay Shelties.

Seven Things you may not know about me:

  1. I hate tomatoes.
  2. I used to ride horses, and the best horse I rode was a chestnut Thoroughbred called Jim.
  3. I live in an attic room.
  4. Although I love my Clio, I hate driving it.
  5. I don’t drink alcohol, but when I do, I still don’t get drunk easily.
  6. I collected the final five Harry Potter books at midnight, and finished them all before dawn the same night.
  7. My first ever competition — flyball — was the day Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released. We weren’t supposed to be going but they needed another a Starter dog at the last minute. I’d had about an hour’s sleep beforehand.

Seven things you may not know about my dogs:

  1. Kim sleeps in my room. I carry her up the spiral staircase every night!
  2. Mollie does beautiful heelwork, finishes, retreives and positions on the move. (I did not teach her this).
  3. Dylan is always the first dog into his bed at night, and is always the first one up in the morning.
  4. Kim ran away when we were moving house in 2001, and then got stuck behind a 6-foot fence. She has never run away again.
  5. All three dogs think Alfie the Greyhound is the Best Dog Ever.
  6. Three completely random people asked if Dylan was available to stud during the first 12 months of his life.
  7. Kim knocked over two metal candlesticks as a puppy. She was so traumatised by this event that we had to get rid of the candlesticks because she kept attacking them, and 9 years later she still alert-barks when you blow out candles.

Sunny Afternoons

The dogs and I have spent the weekend lounging about in the garden and having a lovely sunbathing time. This is our only free weekend until mid-September, as we’ve had a bit of a mix about with some flyball dates that have cancelled my free weekend in July. Providing nothing is cancelled, we’ve got a busy couple of months, alternating between agility and flyball (sometimes in the same weekend!).

Flyball training was fun this weekend, if a little bit warm! The dogs will have to compete in temperatures like this though if the summer goes as promised, so it’s better to get them acclimatised now. Mollie ran surprisingly well, she didn’t lose too much speed as the morning went on. Kim did slow up for her second session, but I wasn’t willing to push her. Her placements in the teams this summer will basically depend on the weather. She’s in demand as a height dog at the moment, especially for some of our older dogs *cough*Mollie*cough*, which will also affect where she runs.

Dylan ran very well! He was in a bit of a funny mood, being particularly cheeky and excitable. He’s running with Barney’s next weekend (on a declared time, thankfully!), but we clocked our time easily at training with no racing involved. That’s promising at least, although who knows what will happen on the day! I think he likes running with his girlfriend Jet, even if he does annoy George.Mollie, August 2007

Website news: I am working on retrieving the UMB layout, and reinstating Katie’s blog at http://www.jetpops.co.uk/ (I’m not actually quite sure why it’s not working, but I am hoping to fix that soon!) Hopefully the site(s) will be back online soon!

Website Updates

New layout! Well, technically just a bit of an update on the old one. New header/footer, some slight colour changes on the links, nothing too noticable except the header image. This post is a run-down of various UMb related things, one post is better than many.

Shows: Show Diary has been updated. Results pages have been split into Agility Results/Flyball Results, and I’m also keeping a page of more detailed stuff that reminds me what happened on each run. So far Dylan’s is a long line of E’s. The Agility Qualifiers and Classes links have gone. It was too hard to keep updated, although I do still have all the information so if someone wants it to try and set up another database, they’re more than welcome.

Media: Video Archive has been updated and reformatted to make it easier to use/read. New photos in the photography section, let me know if I’ve missed any credits. I’ve also added a page for the Agility Eye covers, although I’m not sure exactly when they were used (if anyone does, please let me know!)

Links: have been updated.

Stats

I’m a sucker for WordPress Stats, I love it. undermybed.co.uk averages around 1,100 hits a month, although generally that figure is on the rise by 100 or so hits since I first installed WPStats. (That’s an average of 40 hits per day). Not a huge amount but always more than I expect.

Hosting

On a slightly unrelated note, I’m on the hunt for new hosting. Streamline.net have been good for the past couple of years but I’m getting loads of 500 errors since they changed some of the servers, and a couple of friends had a horrendous experience with their customer service over the summer.

These are the important things for me:

  • PHP
  • MySQL database
  • bandwidth
  • no more expensive than what I pay now (I pay annually but it works out at £2.35 or $3.74 a month)

I’m currently using the Streamline Power User plan which has tons of features, most of which I don’t actually use. But it’s so much cheaper than anywhere else that I’ve found, so I’m not sure what to do! Recommendations or suggestions welcome.
